Lidia Godfrid trabajando

It was around 2002, during a visit to the “Glasmuseet Ebeltoft”, a glass museum in Denmark, that I had the opportunity to witness the magic of glassblowing.  Since then the idea of initiating my formation in glass came to me.  At first, I participated in different workshops on stained glass and glass fusing, an activity that I carried out in Buenos Aires for more than seven years.

As from 2011, I have taken part on flameworking seminars in Italy and the United States.

Flameworking provided me with the tools to make a qualitative step forward not only in the technique but also in my resulting pieces. I was encouraged to go on and acquire other techniques, and thus I attended workshops and seminars on jewelry making. The synergy between glass blowing and jewelry deepened the expressive power of my designs.

The design of each piece is driven by an idea or emotion in my personal thoughts. The beginning of the process is a sketch of the piece, it’s parts or elements, colors and materials to be used.  Designing is part of an exploration and experimentation process.  After this step, I spend long hours working with the torch.  That’s a very special moment of intimate connection with the glass and its changes.

I greatly enjoy the moment when my pieces reach the height of their design and fill with meaning and emotion before the other’s eyes. The process is complete once the piece turns into an object the viewer wishes to feel and experience on their body.

Each and every one of my pieces is the result of what moved my thoughts and emotions expressed in my aesthetic conception. They involve an appreciation of the light, color and movement that form part of my inner landscape.
